2011 NBA Playoffs 1st Round Predictions

It’s finally here. It is time for the NBA playoffs, where the magic truly happens. While I don’t normally like to make predictions, I’ll give it a go with the 1st round.

Memphis v. San Antonio

The Spurs earned the top seed in the west and are awarded the Grizzlies in the first round. Ginobili is doubtful for the first game of the series and it is unsure when he will be ready to play. Despite this, I like the Spurs to get pass the Grizzlies based on experience alone. San Antonio is a veteran playoff team while Memphis has not been to the post season since 2006.

New Orleans v. LA Lakers

The Lakers struggled in the final stretch of the season but had just a enough to get the number 2 seed in the west. LA is an experienced team that knows how to flip the switch when it comes to the playoffs. Even with a limited Andrew Bynum, I see the Lakers cruising through the first round.

Portland v. Dallas

Dallas lost out on the second seed to the Lakers and now have a much harder match up against Portland. The Blazers are a strong young team that looks to be a part of the playoff picture in the west for years to come. Despite the Mavericks struggles in the playoffs in the recent years, I like Dallas to win in a hard fought series.

Denver v. Oklahoma City

Denver has surprised everyone with the way they have played since trading Carmelo Anthony before the deadline. The Thunder finished the season strong going 7-3 in there last 10 games. I am a believer that stars when playoff series and Durant will prove to be too much for Denver.

Indiana v. Chicago

Chicago earned the number one seed behind MVP caliber play from Derrick Rose. Simply put, Chicago has way too much talent for the Pacers and this one might be done in 4 games.

Philadelphia v. Miami

It’s time to put up or shut up for the Miami Heat. After the talk winning multiple championships during the off season the Heat need to hit the ground running during the playoffs. Earning the number 2 seed helps and I don’t see them having much of a problem with the Sixers.

New York v. Boston

Boston struggled down the stretch and it will cost them. They now have the unfortunate task of playing the dangerous new look Knicks in the first round. This may be the Celtics last chance at a title run with there age and the rise of the rest of the eastern conference. New York will put up and good fight and this one will probably go seven games but I give the edge to the more experienced Celtics.

Atlanta v. Orlando

In a rematch of last seasons second round series, the Magic and Hawks meet again. Orlando swept Atlanta last year and they have the most dominant big man in the league in Dwight Howard. Atlanta lost the last six games of the regular season and will need to turn things around fast if they want a chance. I like the Magic to win again and move on to the second round.
