NBA Changing of the Guard

Durant & Westbrook are set up for multiple title runs

Two of the most historic franchises in NBA history, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, have combined to win the last 3 NBA Championships.  Each team had set up its franchise to win now in 2007. The Celtics traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to go along with Paul Pierce to form Boston’s big three. The Lakers traded for Paul Gasol to along with Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum. The two teams went on to meet in the 2007-2008 NBA Finals with Boston taking the title in six games and renewing the great rival between the two teams.

Both teams were set up to win Championships and they did that over the past few years. Unfornately for them, it looks like both of the windows to win another title is closing fast. LA and Boston were both elimated in the second round of the NBA playoffs this past week, setting up a new team to start a multiple title run streak of their own.

The Oklahoma City Thunder behind Durant and Westbrook are looking more and more like title contenders every season. If Durant and Westbrook learn how to coexist, the Thunder could be perianal power in the west for many years to come. The Chicago Bulls behind MVP Derrick Rose proved they deserve to be in the mix for the best team coming out of the east every season. Then there is the ‘Heatles’ AKA the Miami Heat. Miami has its big 3 locked up ready for multiple title runs over the next 6 years.

The league is ripe for a change at the top. The Lakers, Celtics, and Spurs are at the end of there runs. It’s exciting to see which young team will step up to the challenge and put there franchises in the history books.
